If you are looking for unique experiences, beautiful vistas and the ideal setting for bird watching, whale watching and exploring the fascinating ways in which traditional Inupiat culture combines with modern living you have chosen well. Located in the Far North region of Alaska, the town of Barrow, AK can boast of its claim as the northernmost community in the United States. Visit during the summer months (May – August) to truly experience an endless day as the sun never sets. This phenomenon of the North allows for plenty of opportunity to view examples of local wildlife such as polar bears, grizzly bears, arctic foxes, caribou, moose, snowy owls, whales, spotted seals and more. The Barrow Birding Center will provide you with lists of local species and where to best find examples of each. Though the winter is a darker time, with no sunrise from mid-November to late January, this is the ideal time to view the amazing Northern Lights.
