Sterling, Alaska

The Alaskan Outdoors Await

While we are known by some as an archaeological site, with prehistoric Dena'ina remains nearby, the town is more widely known for our natural surroundings. Welcome to Sterling, Alaska, where BBAA member bed and breakfast innkeepers welcome you to explore the many outdoor activities in the area!

During your stay, you may see wildlife aplenty along the Moose River that flows right through town. As the name implies, moose are frequently sighted along the banks, along with migratory birds including swans and sand hill cranes. Nearby, the Kenai National Moose Range and Kenai National Wildlife Refuge offer stunning scenery, hiking, cross-country skiing, and additional opportunities to see native wildlife.

Hunters and fishers love this part of the state for its many sporting possibilities. Guided fishing tours and hunting trips can be arranged through area businesses. Or, if you are familiar with the area from a previous trip, you are welcome to go it alone.

Do you like to canoe? Then you might enjoy the beautiful and extensive Swan Lake/Swanson River canoe trail system just north of town. Take as long or as short of a trip you like, as most of the lakes are connected via waterways. If you would prefer, you can select a guided tour suited to your paddling expertise.

You won’t go wrong choosing B&B lodging in Sterling during your outdoor getaway adventure. We hope our hospitality and the area’s beauty brings you back!
